Voted Miss Martinique in 1972, later on in the same year Miss Caribbean in Venezuela, Roselyne Charles continued her career as a model and artist. For four years she was considered the fetish model for the famous brand "CATALINA". As a polyglot, she expresses herself in six languages and her profession as a model has permitted her to travel throughout the world. Currently she is the Consul of Colombia in Suriname, where she now resides, and devotes her time to painting. Her talent has not remained unnoticed, as she has been invited to take part in several private exhibitions, organized by embassies, galleries and collectors. ROSELYNE CHARLES began to draw and paint at a very early age. This talent has opened up a universe of different sensations to her. It is an inexhaustible area of sensual experiences, cheerful or alarming mystics, an emotional outlet, enabling her to express herself. She is fascinated by the transformation of a white canvas into an image, with magical living colors and flowing movements, created by her fingers. Living forms and movements she only can see and compares with giving birth. While painting she realizes that the world is multidimensional and consists of interdependent spaces. In her mind she travels, like only the believers in the mystic can, to the other world. She realizes the privilege of being able to experience incursions. When we ask her to talk about her paintings, Roselyne Charles, who usually is very outspoken, falls into silence and takes a break to tell us in semi-contemplation: "The canvas is a door to another world. When I begin to paint, I am in a semi-trance state, and total peace rises within me. In this state, I know that there are no useless efforts, but accurate gestures which flow onto the canvas. I am a means to deliver the painting. This is probably why I have a motherly commitment towards my paintings. I choose my themes intuitively and I let that which I am going to paint emerge in me. The colors convey the kind of state I am in - an internal smile which lives in me at the moment I am painting. The state carries me, I try not to lead it. All of my paintings are a result of a meditation. Love is the common theme in all my paintings. I only see the good and the beauty rather than the faults of those around me. I try hard to transcribe an infinite gentleness in my paintings while giving priority to the curves. The angles are too aggressive to me to express the smile and love. My paintings feed themselves on the colors of nature and express reality in an abstract or symbolic form. I try to be translucent and modest. I have been influenced by the countries I have traveled to, the environment I live in, by the strength of nature and the rich colors and forms, which all have enriched my soul. I dig deep into my roots in Martinique, my father and his family and also my mother, originally from Switzerland, who has given me the vigor that feeds me. Roselyne Charles has inherited a rebellious and independent disposition from her father, FRANCISCO, an artist and very popular composer in Martinique. Roselyne Charles does not believe in categorizing her art to a specific style or school. She believes in utter freedom of style and class, and remains faithful to the purity of her art." "SONRISA DE COLORES" - Smile of Colors - the title of her exhibition, describes her style best. An explosion of captive colors in which she expresses herself, a sensation of warmth, joy of life, energy and natural generosity. "SONRISA DE COLORES"also makes a gesture to Latin America, to which she has devoted herself. Particular care has been given to the frames of the paintings. This signifies the respect she has for her painting. She describes her paintings as a clumsy transcription of a bit of the divine. "I content myself in admiring beauty and expressing this in my paintings. To me art represents beauty and beauty is the utmost expression of Gad and nature. Hence, to me, my art is in a way part of the divine" ©Copyright
